LEADERSHIP IN TOUGH TIMES
On May 18th 2009, 70 leaders of businesses large and small, private companies and social enterprises, came together to support each other through tough times.
In an inspiring, highly participatory forum, we heard from Mike Anderson, News International, talking about how to turn around failing business; Rita Bailey, former People Director of South West Airlines, on how to make your values inform your actions when the going gets rough; Miles Hilton-Barber and Floyd Woodrow on how to hold it together personally when you are in unknown territory; and Gerald Ratner on how to rise from the ashes when your world collapses around you!
These are their top tips to get through these tough times:
- Be seen by staff and customers – say thank you more.
- Communicate, communicate, communicate – and listen.
- Keep close to the frontline so you know what’s really going on.
- Do practical things today to raise the energy of your team.
- Keep your head up – get the view from outside your business.
- Look for the opportunities in adversity.
A great event and many thanks to all who came!
